Originally a three piece, Soviet Films consisted of Antony - guitar/vocals, Lee - bass/shouts and Peter - drums/screams. Writing songs using complex rhythms and riffs, a mixture of time signatures along with atmospheric layers, the band released their first album Victory Songs.
Further down the line, realising they needed more depth, Lee switched to another guitar and Peter’s brother, Andy, was brought in on bass. Two more albums were recorded - Cetacean in 2016 and Familiars in 2021. These were both well received and some songs had radio play on BBC Introducing and a radio station in LA. 2023 saw their latest EP, 4 which received favourable reviews both in the UK and overseas.
There are lots of elements to each song including; aggressive shouts and screams, complicated riffs, odd and differing time signatures, slow quiet atmospheric parts, vocal harmonies, dynamic build ups. Occasionally, these can happen all at the same time.
